Ben Artur Alfero was born on March 8, 2004 in Silver City, New Mexico. He died in a tragic accident on a class ski trip in Austria on March 15, 2018.
Ben was the joy of the lives of his family members and his close friends in both New Mexico and Berlin, Germany. He left us with many happy, crazy memories of laughter, courage, and wit, and his growing sense of what’s important in life: family, love, and standing up for your friends.
And he left hundreds of drawings. He never saw himself as an artist, but in his last year of life, a constant stream of characters flowed from his pen, onto the pages of his school books and notepads. Some of these we want to share with you.
We are calling this project Okumbo, because Ben and his cousin loved to say this random word for fun.
